A Ma Maniére's Nike Air Force 1

“Hand Wash Cold” Tells A Story Of Giving

A Ma Maniére is an Atlanta-based boutique, and it took a luxurious spin on everyone’s favorite go-to sneaker the Nike Air Force 1s back in 2019. This resulted in the A Ma Maniére’s Nike Air Force 1 “Hand Wash Cold” in both a high and a low version.

“Hand Wash Cold” goes beyond just a commonly found handling instruction, it is a reminder from the designers to treat the things you care about with respect. The sneakers are designed for wearability by street kids with their sleek premium design in an entirely dark colorway and are numbered (out of 5,914 for the high and 5,269 for the low for the 2019 version)for transparency and collectability.

The Nike Air Force 1 “Hand Wash Cold” is not simply a pair of sneakers but one that tells the story of giving and giving back. The A Ma Maniére brand places an emphasis on creating change in each store location’s adjacent community. An example is its boutique in D.C. where it houses a boutique hotel that supports child homelessness causes.

The shoes with a suede wrap to the midsole contrasted against high-touch accents in the use of nubucks, ponyhair and pebbled leather in a variety of greys and black. A tinge of iridescent blueish purple outlines the panels found on the uppers and is found on the dubraes on the laces. The mixture of colors and materials gives a nod to the silhouette’s democratic base and symbolic meaning.

“The AF1 was our choice of shoe before we found luxury. We have to put a luxury expression on it, but do it in a way that feels uniquely ours. I wanted the shoe to look like it fits next to the brands in A Ma Maniére, but still feels natural and true to Air Force 1.”
— James Whitner Founder of A Ma Maniére

The exclusive 2020 A Ma Maniére F&F Nike Air Force 1 "Hand Wash Cold" a year later was available to those in the store’s inner circle or given a chance to win one out of the 989 pairs if you prove that you and your friends are registered to vote. This move introduces a socially conscious element where collectors had to take active action to make an impact before possibly getting their hands on these kicks.

Designwise the 2020 version retains most of the elements of its 2019 predecessors, except in its use of material and color. In the F&F version, the sneakers have their top half built entirely in suede and dressed entirely in black except the tongue that comes in light grey suede for contrast. They are also numbered individually to 989 by a tag pinned to the medial Swoosh.

These special sneakers invite consumers to think about its related community work and experience at each store location. These limited kicks were dropped on 7 December 2019 for the first iteration with a retail price tag of USD$170 for the low and USD$180 for the high. The A Ma Maniére F&F Nike Air Force 1 "Hand Wash Cold" were not given a full release but fans who registered to vote could try to cop a pair by following instructions in an Instagram post in copping one of these rare sneakers at the end of last year.
