Growing up, I was really into sports and played basketball for most of my life. So, having just the right pair of kicks was always a passion of mine. I got my first pair of Jordans when I was about 13 or 14; they were the Retro White and Violet 10s. I was a hype teenager, so I wore them EVERYWHERE, and they were beaten down in no time. But it didn’t matter to me because I LOVED them. Eventually, they end up in the trash or goodwill, or wherever sneakers go when kids are done wearing them out.
I shared this with my boyfriend, and one day I came home to a new pair of same shoes. The same joy I had the day I first received them overcame me. I knew then that sneaker collecting was more than trying to look fly; it was about stories, feelings, and connections. I was hooked!
I love to see creators and collectors who cop sneakers regardless of trends. Many people feel pressure to get certain pairs of sneakers because everyone else is wearing them, but trends are constantly changing. So it resonates with me when I see people who stay true to their style when collecting.
I instantly get super excited when I get a new pair of kicks and start putting together possible outfit options in my head. For me, a new pair of sneakers is like a blank canvas ready to be completed with a new look. It’s one of my favorite forms of creative expression.
Rihanna, Tyler the Creator, Melody Ehsani, and Joe FreshGoods are some of my favorite creators and designers. They don’t just create dope pieces; they make pieces that tell stories. Some of my favorite sneakers are ones inspired by unique ideas and messages.
I would love to see a Rihanna X Jordan collaboration. I’m obsessed with her sense of style, and I know she would create a super dope sneaker with the Jordan brand.
A few pairs in my current rotation are the Nike Blazer Mid ’77 Vintage Habanero Red & White, Melody Ehsani Women’s OG Cherry, AJ 1 Shadow 2.0, and Off-White Sail Jordan 4s. I always have a pair of fresh Air Force 1s in the mix.
For the longest, I’ve wanted to get my hands on a pair of Melody Ehsani ‘Fearless’ AJ 1s. But I haven’t been able to yet, and the resale prices are insane. I love that the designer stepped outside the box with the design elements and created such a meaningful sneaker.
Besides kicks, I’m a sucker for a fire nail and outfit combo. Nothing sets off a fire pair of sneakers like a dope nail design and the right accessories.
