Interviews

Michael Fritsche @_.nikemike is both a sneaker and basketball lover. His passion for sneakers was actually triggered by basketball, specifically with the Jordan 3 White Cement 88 OG – which Michael Jordan was wearing at the time.

What was the moment you first got drawn to sneakers, and which pair of sneakers triggered your passion?

I was born in the late 80ties and far as I can remember Michael Jordan was always hype as a basketball player and known for his shoes. My room was full of MJ Posters and I loved all the shoes he was wearing but the one pair which triggered me the most was the Jordan 3 White Cement 88 OG!

What’s one moment or trend in the history of sneaker culture that resonates with you?

I actually played basketball in my Highschool days and I loved to rock Jordans beside other brands such as Reebok which were from Allen Iverson or Uptempos from Scottie Pippen and also Converse from Dennis Rodman. So I think this was the moment I most got involved with J‘s because everyone who played rocked a retro Model. At that time my favorite Jordan I played in was the 13 Bred!

Please describe how it feels to you when you get and wear a new pair of kicks?

It feels like heaven - the moment when you open the box and take a deep breath and inhale the smell of a new pair is completely insane love it! And what is more satisfying than rocking a new pair every day? When I hit the streets I’ll feel like having a Lamborghini or Ferrari on my feet - all eyes on me - my feet! I’ll do shoe contact, not eye contact.

What are some of your favorite creators/designers or brands and why?

One of my fav designers was Virgil - RIP! I loved the way he did the designs how he gave the J‘s a new fresh look and how he used the material. He took a retro that was not hyped at all and brought it back into the spotlight- everything he touched sold out immediately and was gold!

What is one sneaker collaboration that doesn’t exist, but you wish/think should exist?

If I would be honest my own one! Jumpman23 X nikeMIKE.

What are some of the current pairs of sneakers in your rotation?

If I’ll be honest with you my rotation is a 2-3 months rotation I’ll try to rock all my over 100 pairs - sometimes I switch 2 to 3 times a day to wear them all :) but my favorite pairs are Jordan 1-3-4 and 11

What is your ultimate holy grail sneaker that you have not managed to acquire so far?

It is the Jordan 5 Tokio from 2011 - At the moment they are up to 8K in my size right now which is a US9.5.

Other than kicks, what are some of your daily essentials or treasured items?

Actually, it’s all about SNKRS to be honest laces Snkr Balls and cleaning stuff and shoe trees.
