Last year, Cheung Ka Long became the first athlete representing Hong Kong to win an Olympic gold medal in fencing, and the second to become an Olympic champion. To commemorate this historical achievement, Nike Hong Kong has unveiled a Nike Air Max 97 that's inspired by the sporting icon. Images courtesy of HYPEBEAST, we're going to take a closer look.
Painted in a luxurious all-gold palette to symbolize Cheung's Olympic gold medal, olive green accents make their way throughout the leather upper as a nod to his favorite color. Ripstop detailing offers a strong and versatile fit and finish, and the tongues are decorated with a Velcro patch where you can place fencing-inspired graphics and the number "852," which is HK's country code. Underfoot, the full length Air unit is printed with Ka Long's motto, "Don't Lose Your Way," which he writes on every one of his competition-worn shoes, and the translucent outsole is done up with a topographical map of Hong Kong's tallet peak, Tai Mo Shan.
Dropping alongside a commemorative T-shirt, the Cheung Ka Long x Nike Air Max 97 is set to drop at Nike Hong Kong on October 17th. If you take a L, don't worry, as these will be available on Ox Street's dedicated Air Max 97 page very soon.
