Elisha Arifin - Australian Sneakerhead Interview

What was the moment you first got drawn to sneakers, and which pair of sneakers triggered your passion?

Ever since I was young I've loved collecting things. My first pair of Jordan 1 Mid Chicagos back in 2020 definitely spiked my love for sneakers. Back then, I was definitely growing and evolving into my own style and the realisation that shoes can have such an impact on an outfit definitely triggered my passion to wanting more and more.

What’s one moment or trend in the history of sneaker culture that resonates with you?

Customization and collaboration is definitely significant moment of sneaker culture. What resonates with me is the ability to express yourself through art within sneakers which is a leading concept in fashion.

Many well-known brands for example Balenciaga's collaboration with Crocs is such a unique new side to fashion. Creativity is the next level in the current history of sneaker culture, giving society such a large variety of self-expression through fashion, art, and sneakers.

Without self-expression, we would all be boring, same-liked selves!

What are some of the current pairs of sneakers in your rotation?

My rotation currently is Nike TNS and my New Balance 550s. Specifically, I rotate through multiple colour-ways of TNS because comfort >>

Please describe how it feels to you when you get and wear a new pair of kicks?

It feels like Christmas when you were a kid... Literally unboxing the shoe, trying it on, to figuring out what outfits I'll wear with them is such a satisfying feeling.

There is also no better feeling than to be finally holding onto and purchasing something you have been eyeing for a while. It feels sooo rewarding.

What is one sneaker collaboration that doesn’t exist, but you wish/think should exist?

Balenciaga x Vetements could be total fire.

What are some of your favorite creators/designers or brands and why?

Virgil Abloh is one of my favourite creative designers. His work with Louis Vuitton and each one of his runways is so inspiring and captivating. Definitely a leading designer in our generation. May his success inspire and carry on!

Balenciaga also hits differently and resonates with my more 'edgy' style that I had going on.

What is your ultimate holy grail sneaker that you have not managed to acquire so far?

Balenciaga Triple S.

I know some say it's kinda basic, but I do have a thing for chunky shoes and can already vision the fire fits I'll put together.

Other than kicks, what are some of your daily essentials or treasured items?

I do love materialistic things. Bags are also such an essential accessory to fits that can completely change the vibe.

I cherish my Prada Re-edition 2005 bag, I take that almost everywhere with me. Also my Louis Vuitton Alma BB handbag is a classic treasured item gifted to me that I adore.
