Filipino Retro Roots: Earl Cedrick Fruelda

What was the moment you first got drawn to sneakers, and which pair of sneakers triggered your passion?

It all started in highschool because I play basketball, so I have different basketball shoes like Jordans, Lebrons, and Kds. After school, I will go to thriftshop to buy some second hand sneakers, clean it and post it online - and the rest is history.

What’s one moment or trend in the history of sneaker culture that resonates with you?

The era of chunky sneakers, it's a eye catching sneaker because of the bulkiness form and specially the silhouette its very comfortable for the wide feet as mine.

Please describe how it feels to you when you get and wear a new pair of kicks?

I am happy and confident whenever I have new sneakers because I worked hard to buy them. I am also really excited to create more content and flex it.

What are some of your favorite creators/designers or brands and why?

Sean Wotherspoon is my favorite designer because I'm also into thrifting. I love his unique design, the color combinations he created, and how he fits it is purely a fire!

My favorite brand is Carhartt, even though it was a workwear piece. I love the thickness of the shirt, the baggy fit for the pants, the simple logo pocket tee, and the Carhartt Detriot jacket. It looks so lit and hot when worn, even though the climate is humid, haha. I am so obsessed with Carhartt.

What is one sneaker collaboration that doesn’t exist, but you wish/think should exist?

I would love to see a Sean Wotherspoon x Nike collaboration! Moreover, I love the Nike SW Airmax 97 silhouette because of its unique design, from the rainbow color combination to the corduroy texture. Overall,  it was a fire sneaker!

What are some of the current pairs of sneakers in your rotation?

I currently use six sneakers: DBTK Spark, New Balance 550, New Balance 990 V5 and V2, Nike Air Monarch, and Balenciaga Track Trainers.

What is your ultimate holy grail sneaker that you have not managed to acquire so far?

I am hoping to get a Jordan 1 Low Travis Scott x Fragment. I just admire the colorway, and the collab is so damn lit!

Other than kicks, what are some of your daily essentials or treasured items?

I like vintage band shirts, Nascar shirts, workwear pieces or any thrift clothes that fit my style.
