Filipino Sneakerhead and Social Media Influencer: Justin Sales

What was the moment you first got drawn to sneakers, and which pair of sneakers triggered your passion?

I always had an interest in sneakers and that when I was still in college, in 2013. The most popular sneakers back then were Roshe Runs, NMDs and Ultraboosts. The Ultraboosts started it all for me because I love how comfortable the shoe is. My interest in sneakers grew even more when I started collecting different colorways of NMDs.

What’s one moment or trend in the history of sneaker culture that resonates with you?

One sneaker that got me hooked was the "chunky dad sneakers." This was when streetwear was making a more significant impact in the fashion world, and a shift in streetwear heavily influenced me more ever since!

Please describe how it feels to you when you get and wear a new pair of kicks?

Getting a new pair feels like the first day of school, wherein you are excited to show off your new crayon box and new notebooks to your classmates.
I have this habit of keeping my new sneakers in bed before I use them HAHA

What are some of your favorite creators/designers or brands and why?

I have always looked up to Chitose Abe, Jerry Lorenzo, Nigo, Kanye, and Virgil Abloh for bringing new ideas for sneakers and streetwear.

What is one sneaker collaboration that doesn’t exist, but you wish/think should exist?

I love the Air Max 90 silhouette, and this is such an underrated shoe for me. I feel like Travis Scott could add more hype to this sneaker if he would have an Air Max 90.

What are some of the current pairs of sneakers in your rotation?

I have a few pairs of Jordan 1s, Nike Dunks, and Air Maxes since I am a huge fan of these silhouettes. New Balance also takes away my heart and money since they have been on a roll with their releases.

I have been beating up my Sacai Vaporwaffles, New Balance 550 ALDs, and Airmax 90/1 Sean Wotherspoon quite a lot.

What is your ultimate holy grail sneaker that you have not managed to acquire so far?

My dream pairs are the Jordan 1 SBBs and Off White Jordan 4s. I am in love with these two!

Other than kicks, what are some of your daily essentials or treasured items?

Other than a sneaker, I like watches too! I believe that accessories complete the whole look.
