Filipino Sneakerhead and Youtuber: Gelo Pineda

What was the moment you first got drawn to sneakers, and which pair of sneakers triggered your passion?

It started in my middle school days in 1998 with the Jordan 11 Concord and Jordan 12 Taxi. But I began collecting in 2016 when I saw them retro, the Jordan 1 Chicago (released in 2015) and the Adidas NMD R1. During those years, I felt the urge to hunt for these pairs.

What’s one moment or trend in the history of sneaker culture that resonates with you?

It was the vintage wave that resonated with me; as someone who was a '90s kid, seeing retro sneakers always gets nostalgia into play. The 90s is a golden era for sneakers in general, and it's great to relive those days. Although I appreciate the current and futuristic design language sneakers have nowadays, the freedom of expression in how you dress up always gets me excited.

Please describe how it feels to you when you get and wear a new pair of kicks?

To un-DS a new pair is always a great day! Wish we have more good days!

What are some of your favorite creators/designers or brands and why?

Aime Leon Dore - because of the simplistic yet rightful way of designing or re-imagining an old silhouette.

What is one sneaker collaboration that doesn’t exist, but you wish/think should exist?

Off White x Teddy Santis (vintage creams and deconstructed uppers)

What are some of the current pairs of sneakers in your rotation?

The sneakers in my current rotation are the Jordan 1 Low OG Neutral grey, Jordan 1 High OG Shadows 2018, Ultraboost 21 in grey, New Balance 990 v5 in the Castlerock colorway, and the Nike Pegasus 35 Turbo in black.

What is your ultimate holy grail sneaker that you have not managed to acquire so far?

I dream of having pairs of Jordan 1 Chicago 'Lost & Found,' though it has not been released yet, and the New Balance 550 Aime Leon Dore grey.

Other than kicks, what are some of your daily essentials or treasured items?

Daily essentials are My FOG x New Era Fitted Cap, Carhartt bag, Technomarine cruise watch, Oakley Hollbrook prescriptions, Charriol Celtic Bangle, crew socks, and Adidas Adilette slides.
