Even though the New Balance 990 is celebrating its 40th birthday in 2022, the retro silhouette is more popular than it ever was before. In fact, this year, the Boston-based sportswear giant will be introducing the sixth generation of the shoe with the aptly named New Balance 990v6 "Grey," and we're now getting our closest look yet thanks to these brand new shots from Instagram user @addctdgram.
Teased by Aime Leon Dore founder and NB Made in USA Creative Director Teddy Santis earlier this year, the 990v6 makes its grand debut in a classic gray color scheme. Bearing a striking resemblance to the v5, it has been revamped with a sportier and more streamlined aesthetic. Working on top of a ballistic mesh base, buttery suede runs across the toe box, lacing system, mudguards, and heel for an extra premium look and feel. The signature "N" logo on the lateral and medial sides has been given a ribbed texture as a nod to the 990v3, and you'll also find an updated badge on the tongue which features the new "v6" moniker.
Unlike its predecessors, the "Grey" sits on top of a sleeker midsole unit. It also drops the usual ENCAP technology in favor of FuelCell foam that has been used on New Balance's line of high-end performing sneakers. This all comes together to form the perfect balance between form and function.
Not much else is known about the New Balance 990v6 "Grey" at this moment in time, but our sources tell us that they'll release before the end of 2022 to keep in line with the model's 40th anniversary. Make sure you keep it locked at Ox Street for the latest details, and while you're here, check out our massive 990 range right here.
