Interviews

Dating a sneakerhead makes Josarie @josarieg drawn into sneakers with Nike Wmns Dunk Low 'Vintage Green' as her first sneaker. Like other sneakerheads, she admires Virgil Abloh for the way he changed the fashion industry and created a unique brand!

What was the moment you first got drawn to sneakers, and which pair of sneakers triggered your passion?

I was first drawn to sneakers when I met my current boyfriend. He is so into Dunks and Jordans, as well as his friends. He even has a friend who owns a sneaker store. Every time we get to visit that sneaker store, which is called "Foot Soldier Manila"; I get to see different colorways of shoes.

One time, while visiting the store, I saw a Nike Vintage Green Dunks that really caught my eye, and I instantly said, "I want this pair," and my love for collecting sneakers began ever since!

What’s one moment or trend in the history of sneaker culture that resonates with you?

One moment in the history of sneaker culture that resonates with me is when Virgil Abloh founded Off-White.

Virgil Abloh changed the fashion industry; he created a unique and creative brand for the people. He changed the look of sneakers in such a way that he made sneakers from scratch, sneakers with an unfinished look, and logos that are reversely positioned.

In addition, his concept of putting quotation marks in his designs is simple yet brilliant. He said that leaving these quotation marks on every word makes it indefinite, so there will always be room for curiosity; this just speaks for his brand.

Please describe how it feels to you when you get and wear a new pair of kicks?

Every design produced is either not for everyone to like or simply limited, so if a certain pair catches your attention, it will be thrilling for you to get and wear one.

I remember when I got my vintage green dunks because it was quite a long time before I got myself a pair since my size would always be out of stock. Then, there came a day when a seller had my size, and it was on hand. I was gushing around the moment I got it, and when I wore it, I instantly fell in love with it.

Wearing it outside makes me happy because several people noticed the shoes. And the shoes getting all those nice comments and people asking about it feels amazing. Wearing the kicks gives life to it, especially when you think that this certain shoe is underrated; then suddenly, wearing it, most individuals will give appreciation and attention to it.

What are some of your favorite creators/designers or brands and why?

My favorite brands are Prada and Balenciaga because they cater products that promote minimal but fashionable items.

Being someone who enjoys simplicity but with an elegant finish, Prada would be my favorite brand because their products provide a fashionless fashion, something effortless yet classy.

At the same time, Balenciaga offers iconic pieces and is known as a brand that will constantly adapt and give individual new items that are out of the global market.

What is one sneaker collaboration that doesn’t exist, but you wish/think should exist?

A collaboration that doesn't exist but should occur is Off-White x Jacquemus.

I believe both brands experiment and play with their designs or concepts to produce a unique product for their consumers. And I can't imagine how beautiful the output can be when two brilliant brands like Off-white and Jacquemus would combine.

What are some of the current pairs of sneakers in your rotation?

I currently have Dunks such as Panda and the vintage green one, Comme Des Garçons x Converse, and Jordan 1 Retro High Dark Mocha.

I did have Reverse Mocha of the Jordan 1 x Travis Scott collection and the Limited edition of Aime Leon Dore x New Balance 550 — Natural Green.

What is your ultimate holy grail sneaker that you have not managed to acquire so far?

The ultimate holy grail sneaker I have not acquired so far is the Jordan 4 x Off-White 'Sail'.

Other than kicks, what are some of your daily essentials or treasured items?

Other than kicks, some of my daily essentials or treasured items would be perfumes and bags.

Similar to shoes, perfumes and bags add to my personality because smelling good and having an added accessory makes me happy, secure, and confident about myself.
