I’m Hafiz, born in Kelantan and raised in KL. Short brief about myself as I’m working as IT Executive in a Banking firm, graduate in BSc Hons in E-Business & Information Technology from Liverpool John Moores University and PostGraduate from Cardiff University in MSc Information Security & Privacy. I’m a sports person, quite active till now such Futsal, Badminton and Running.
How I started to love sneakers?
It all starts in my secondary school which I start to learn skate, at that time there’s a lot of subculture which Breakdancing, Graffiti, In-line skating but I’m more towards Skateboarding since that era there’s a movie called Lord of Dogtown, I would say the movie gave me a huge influence to try Skateboarding. Long short story, I bought my first pair of sneakers called Phat Farm at RM40 from my friend, beat up that pair hard for skating until at one moment I decided to buy another pair of sneakers which is White Air Force 1 with Black Swoosh. In the mean time my music influence along together with my skating, I’ve been listening to Screamo, Hardcore and Post Hardcore music from US & UK and this drive me to learn their subculture, their fashion and all that jazz. So from that moment I started to do some research about sneakers and fashion, so that’s how I love sneakers.
There’s a few of my favourite sneakers at the moment, as time goes by I tend to change my favourite sneakers from time to time, also it depends on my mood as well. As for now my list as per below:
· Patta x Nike Air Span II
· Nike Air Max 1 & 90
I love stories and history! The story behind sneakers is the most interesting part of collecting sneakers. Like myself, I remember when I bought the sneakers and why I bought it, there’s always a story behind it. For example, my friend from the UK Daniel Low offered me Nike Dunk Low Samba for retail and that time the resale price went up to RM1.2K and he decided to sell it at retail just because we are friends. So every pair there's stories behind it and I love to tell people about it.
I know some people just bought the sneakers because it’s in trend and hype but for me, the story behind it made me want to get that pair. It’s no right or wrong but that is my preference to buy certain of sneakers.
I know it might sound cliché but I love to buy what I like based on the color and material. If the material is premium and the colorway is what I’m going to wear that’s good enough for me but the thing is I love to buy something people don’t like because I’m not that type of person who will wear the same freaking shoes with other people. I will keep buying hype shoes and wear them until the hype is gone, be different with others and find sneakers suits with my style is the most important. Everyone has their own taste and style so just be yourself. I don't want to spend thousand of ringgit end up there's a lot of people wearing at the same time, that’s not me.
As for now I do have couple of grail that I'm really interested in, below is some of it:
1) Nike Air Jordan High Fragment
2) Nike SB Dunk Low Supreme White Cement ‘2002’
3) Asics Gel Lyte 3 ‘Salmon Toe’
4) Nike SB Dunk Low Ms Pacman
My formula for outfits is: Be subtle, but don't settle. Never wear anything that causes discomfort and repetitiveness. Try to be bold, experimenting with something that you haven’t try before, play around with your fashion sense.
This is my two cents, please don’t follow the hype blindly, you can refer to the trendiest style but it might not suit you, think about the theme or message you would like to highlight, mix and match is the key! Lastly, always remember to put-on your charming smiles along with plenty of confidence, just be yourself.
When it takes too much time in deciding what to wear, a plain or minimal design tee will be my saviour. They are easy to match and look good at the same time.
I was wearing skinny pants for the past 5-6 years, guess what, cargo pants are my kind of favourite bottoms now especially nylon/polyester material. This kind of material is breathable for Malaysian weather which is kind of humid. I prefer them a thousand times over any other pants. They are so cosy and definitely a great looking look. I’ve been into the denim community for a while and I still do have a couple of raw denim but in this weather? I don’t think it suits for me to rock the heavy denim.
