New Zealand Sneakerhead and Digital Creator: Troi Atkins

What was the moment you first got drawn to sneakers, and which pair of sneakers triggered your passion?

I grew up playing basketball, so my love of sneakers started there. The first pair that triggered my passion for sneakers was the Triple White Jordan One Lows which I purchased with my first ever pay from my after-school job.

What’s one moment or trend in the history of sneaker culture that resonates with you?

Aleali May's 2018 collab with Nike! She was the first woman in history to collaborate with Nike to design a pair of Jordan Ones and a pair of unisex Air Jordan's. I look up to her stylistically. Moreover, I had the honor of her sharing some of my content on her Instagram story recently!

Please describe how it feels to you when you get and wear a new pair of kicks?

Literally, 'new character unlocked'!! But for real, it allows me to reinvent my wardrobe and change my persona.

What are some of your favorite creators/designers or brands and why?

I love Balenciaga for its silhouettes and minimalist aesthetic. I also love Entire Studio for the silky palette combinations rarely seen paired in regular streetwear.

What is one sneaker collaboration that doesn’t exist, but you wish/think should exist?

Manuela Soto Sosa. She started as a tattoo artist and then moved into multi-media art forms creating a clothing and accessory line inspired by anime and the 90s & 2000s era. I feel sneakers would be the perfect progression.

What are some of the current pairs of sneakers in your rotation?

Military Black Jordan 4s, Disrupt Dunks in Ivory, Wabi Sabi Airmax 1s, and Foam Runners are in my current rotation.

What is your ultimate holy grail sneaker that you have not managed to acquire so far?

Air Jordan 4 Retro SP Pine Greens is my dream hype sneaker.

Other than kicks, what are some of your daily essentials or treasured items?

Airpods, lip oil, Telfar handbag, vintage film camera, and gum!
