Hey Nika, could you share a bit about your secret origin story?

My name is Nika Higashionna. I was born in Okinawa, Japan and raised in the Philippines. I started out in this industry as a model and I used to do fashion weeks and modelling for different brands until I fell in love with sneakers. The moment I got my hands on my first pair of Nikes, the FlyKnit Oreos, that’s when I fell in love with the sneaker game and developed a deep passion for street style. Along with that, I was also an admin of a Facebook buy and sell/discussion group that helped me widen and discuss my knowledge about the streetwear scene. I think one of my biggest breaks was being featured in Highsnobiety Meet the Muse as the first Filipina Japanese to ever do so.

What's your favorite pair of sneakers?

My current favorite pair of sneakers is the Air Jordan 4 Off-White Sail. Definitely, I can say that it’s the best shoe of 2020. I don’t own a lot of Jordan 4s but once I got my hands on the Sail I felt like I needed to get more of the same silhouette. The reason why I love it is because I appreciate the fabric they used to make the shoe and I haven’t seen any design made like that ever since.

What drew you to this particular pair of sneakers?

The women focused sizing. I feel this factor contributed to a lot of my fellow content creator friends and personalities wearing the shoe and honestly it started to impress me with how it could go so well with various outfits. Since it’s a collaboration with Off-White, it was a particular shoe I really wanted to get my hands on as I am a fan of Virgil Abloh.

What’s your personal sneaker collecting philosophy?

Wear it don’t store it. As someone who owns quite a lot of sneakers, I believe that we should wear them. In time shoes do get old and the soles break. I think it’s better to wear it and actually rock it rather than storing.

Your dream hype sneaker you wish to acquire but don’t have so far.

The Dior Jordan 1 High. I have been looking in every other sneaker group for it but it looks like I have no luck finding one at the moment but hopefully, soon I’ll get my hands on it.

What’s your day-to-day style like?

My day to day style would consist of sneakers probably Jordan 1’s, Air Force Low 1’s, Off-White, high waist baggy jeans, and a white or black crop top. I also like to pair my sneakers with dresses and trousers. My style has been very versatile throughout the years that’s why I feel like I don’t have one constant style I follow. For me, it’s about versatility and how you can match things and look good.
