In a previous article, Ox Street took a look at the latest Internet craze, NFTs, which stands for non-fungible tokens, and what it means for the sneaker industry. NFTs are all the rage recently and it seems that everyone wants a piece of them. When looking to begin your NFT sneaker journey, where is the best place to begin? The answer lies with these letters - RTFKT.

RTFKT Studios is a company born from technology in the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in January 2020. Focusing on the latest technologies from game engines, NFT, blockchain authentication and augmented reality, they create “one of a kind sneakers and digital artifacts.”

The above design features one of their RTFKT creator challenges focusing on popular video game ‘Valorant’ agents and sneaker designs fitting the characters.

RTFKT has also collaborated with 18 year-old crypto-designer FEWOCiOUS  to release a new line of designs. With a total of 3 sneaker designs along with a ‘Charm’ and a ‘Drip’, they sold more than 600 pairs of digital sneakers, which totals to more than US$3.1 million, while the ‘Charm’ and ‘Drip’ sold for US$88,888 and US$1,500 respectively. Did we mention that the fewo sneakers were also sold out in a record-breaking 7 minutes?

The brand also has collaboration designs with other brands, not just artists. For example, RTFKT released a sneaker for car brand Lexus that thrilled sneakerheads and car fanatics alike.

They also have NFT sneakers with Atari in a more recent collaboration and a PS5-inspired design on their website.

These hot designs are only the beginning of the NFT and AR sneaker digital era. RTFKT may be paving the way for NFT sneakers and collaborations but it is only a matter of time before brands start hopping on this digital craze.

“We are here to accelerate our digital future now.”
