Sneakerhead & Gamer Renato

Interviews

@rennie_ds is a sneaker lover as well as a gamer. Asides from his sneaker collections, he also occasionally plays the PS5. Some pairs you’ll see in his collection are Jordan 1s, 4s, Travis Scotts, and the Nike sacai vaporwaffles.

What was the moment you first got drawn to sneakers, and which pair of sneakers triggered your passion?‍

It actually started slowly and I didn’t realize it at first. I was 17 years old back in 2010. When I talked to my friends and told them I have 5 pairs of sneakers, they would reply, “Woah why would you have 5 pairs of sneakers?” That’s when I realized I really love a nice, clean pair of sneakers and am willing to spend a good amount of money on them. My next purchase was a Jordan III True Blue (2011). That was my first true pickup, knowing that I’m into sneakers. In the same year, I bought a pair of Nike MAGs and I fully launched my sneaker collecting “career”.

What are some of your observations or personal stories when it comes to collecting kicks?

In 2019 my sneaker collection was part of an Art exhibition at the Mudac Lausanne, Switzerland. That was so cool to see some of my sneakers in a museum!  My best raffle win was probably the Adidas Yeezy 750 OG. Our only good sneaker store in Switzerland, Titolo, received 17 pairs total (2 in my size) and made a live raffle in front of the store with hundreds of people participating. I won a pair (well actually my best friend who signed up for me did haha)!

What are some of the current pairs of sneakers in your rotation?‍

I own over 70 pairs. In my heavy rotation are Jordan 1 x Off-White “White/White”, Jordan 4 x UnionLA Guave, Jordan 1 x Fragment x Travis Scott High or the Nike Sacai Vapor Waffles Black/White.

Can you please describe how it feels to you when you get and wear a new pair of kicks?‍

It feels great! Like a fresh start or a new chapter haha it’s hard to describe. I’m super careful at first when I wear a new pair of kicks. As soon as I’ve worn them a full day though, I don’t really care anymore and rock them!

What is one sneaker collaboration that doesn’t exist, but you wish/think should exist?

I think there are a lot of independent and unofficial sneaker designers and custom makers out there. I wish and hope Nike or other companies would discover more new artists and make collabs with them or even hire them.

What are some of your favourite creators/designers or brands and why?

Virgil A+bloh hands down had one of the biggest influences in design, fashion, and sneakers in the last couple of years. I love Off-White and its collaborations with Nike. Also, I think Ye has one of the most creative minds in the industry. His designs are always ahead of their time and will be copied in the following years. Two very hyped creators, I know, but that’s just how I feel.

What is your ultimate holy grail sneaker that you have not managed to acquire so far?‍

If I’d have an unlimited amount of money I’d probably go for a pair of either Nike Paris Dunks or Travis Scott Jordan 4s F&F Purple.

Other than kicks, what are some of your daily essentials or treasured items?

I’m a simple person when it comes to clothes: I need a nice tee, a cool sweatshirt and a good pair of pants or denim. It’s always the kicks that stand out in my outfit. Although I love to wear unusual colors like pink or purple if it matches the rest of the fit. I’m also a gamer so I guess I’m blessed to own a PS5 haha (for retail too!).

Where can people find you on social media?

I’m on Instagram only: @rennie_ds. DM me if you have any questions, I’ll answer every message I get.
