Taiwanese Sneakerhead and University Student: Yunyi

Could you share a bit about your secret origin story? (Tell us a bit about yourself, how did you start loving sneakers, what you do/hobbies, etc.)

Even though currently I'm studying abroad in Australia as a university student, my first encounter with sneakers was years ago; exactly when I was still a 16 years old in Taiwan. Back then, I couldn't afford any pair of them. What I could do at that time was try my best to afford the style - outdoors. By the way, Outdoors is the first style that I'm in love with.

As I grew older, I bought a New Balance 997H as my first sneakers. Soon after, I purchased a 990V5 at a discount sale in Australia, which is also my first pair that was made in The US. Those two beautiful experiences made me fall in love with New Balance so much!

I know you have great passion on fashion and street wear. Could you tell us more about it?

I don't have a major style to stick with since I find it interesting and challenging to switch between different styles of outfits. Sometimes I just wear simple t-shirts and match it with accessories, or sometimes I put on multiple layers of it. On other days, I focus on specific styles, like Japanese City Boys. I always enjoy stacking different colors on my body, and finally match a pair of unique style sneakers.

If I wear wide pants today then definitely I will match it with Vans Vault. If I choose Japanese style instead, I will probably pick New Balance or Dr.Marten. The last thing to share is that recently I prefer Urban Outdoor/Tech Wear, because most of these clothes have many pockets and waterproof materials, which allows me not only to go out without a hug bag, but also to relax and enjoy walking without paying too much attention to the weather. These functional and good-looking clothing makes me want to recommend to everyone to try.
