When I was in middle school, I was a basketball player and it was pretty common to look for a pair of great hoop shoes. That was when I got drawn to Air Jordan shoes and the GOAT himself.
I would say the time from 2007 to 2010; the Jordan brand released many packs that later became classics.
I was just into the sneaker game by the time, yet unfortunately I couldn't afford most of them. However, I love that era because we used to have countdown packs, defining moment packs, etc., which are all awesome. I can feel their passion for relating the shoes and MJ's career. It was such a remarkable era that, as a sneaker lover, you could feel something extra on top of a classic model.
It is fantastic to open up a fresh pair of kicks. It makes me always feel like a kid opening up a gift. As I have been into the sneaker game for over 15 years, it has become part of life throughout the whole time - from a kid in middle school to a grown man.
I feel like unboxing a pair of new shoes is something never changes in life, something timeless. It brought me back to the old days when I was 12 to 13, and we didn't get many pairs a year. Every time I opened the box, it was a blessing. Even now that I have over 100 shoes, I still find it exciting and joyful to unbox a fresh pair.
I have always been a fan of Stussy ever since high school. I love the American streetwear vibe they have a lot. The fact that they are affordable and widely available is important, allowing younger kids to learn about the culture.
Stussy is also a brand with rich streetwear history and has been in the game for over 40 years. It definitely influenced many of us and some designers like Kim Jones as they collaborated on Dior in 2020.
Honestly, with this many years into the game, I have seen a lot of collaboration. Nevertheless, I am excited to see Carhartt collaborating with New Balance. I am a fan of these brands. I heard they would be dropping soon this year the 990v1 model. However, I would like to see them working together on a 993 or 1700.
Another would be the Stussy x Air Jordan. I particularly think they would do a great job on AJ3s or 4s.
I mostly wear New Balance in my daily rotation with some classic Made in USA pairs like 990v1-3, 992, 996, etc. I have reached a point where I collected most Jordans but I want and still wear AJ1s, 3s, 4s, and 11s.
For the other models, they are more like for keepsakes. And I do wear some other brands like Asics, Converse, and Vans.
My definition of a grail sneaker is timeless and has nothing to deal with hype and resell value and potential. I used to think Air Yeezy 2 was my grail, but as I got older, I didn't find them wearable anymore.
For now, I would say it's the 1985 Air Jordan 1 BRED. This shoe started it all, and its shape was original and special. I really wish they would drop it again on BRED colorway.
I would say watches and cologne. Watches are men's essential item that gives a lot of extra vibe to your outfit. A grown man or gentleman should know when to wear a great and proper watch for different occasions.
It is an accessory where you can tell people your taste and preference. It does not necessarily need to be an expensive watch; instead, something must have and will be running for decades if you take good care of them.
