Back in 2018, me and a friend started buying and selling pre-owned sneakers on the side while completing our last year of high school. And back then, the NMD was pretty popular, and I loved how comfortable they were. I joined multiple sneaker marketplace groups on Facebook, which made me see more and more kinds of sneakers.
People who un-DS their kicks at checkout. Just to be able to flex a new pair of sneakers straight out the shop while everyone is storing or selling their pairs make it so much more of an awesome kick.
It takes me some time to think about buying shoes, and I make sure that I know that I’ll love the pair before I get them, so when I do, it’s the greatest feeling unboxing the pair, opening the wrapping paper and revealing the fresh new smell of new shoes. And after putting them straight onto feet, I straight away think of all the many fits I can wear with them.
My favorite boutique store designs that have come so far have been from NiceKicks. All their collaborations have been amazing and come with a story. I myself own the Ultraboost and ASICS Gel Lite II pairs and the designs and stories behind the creation of both are inspiring. I also am a huge fan of local store Upthere based in Melbourne that have been releasing their own collaborations with New Balance and ASICS. They’re on fire at the moment and I’m sure there’s going to be more to come from their team.
To be honest, most of the collabs that I’ve ever wanted have happened in the past few years. Adidas had their massive A-Zx campaign that introduced a number of new ongoing collaborations such as The Simpsons, Sean Wotherspoon, Lego and heaps of others, Nike has done their Ben & Jerry’s collab, Travis Scott and all their other popular ones.
I lean more towards comfort over hype. My collection ranges from Yeezy 350, Air Jordan 1, Nike Dunks, grail Adidas Ultraboosts and everyday basics such as the Reebok Club C and Air Force 1’s.
So far being in the Sneakersphere, the one pair that I have always wanted since its release was the Nike x Ben & Jerry’s Dunk. The colors and the significance around the shoe at the time where Dunks were the only pair that people were collecting and hyping for combined with my love for their ice cream flavors, it was a must have for me. I entered all the raffles I could find, but I am yet to acquire my own pair. They even came with a Ben & Jerry’s ice cream tub shaped box!
Heavy oversized tees such as those from the latest Human Race line from Adidas have been a wardrobe essential, especially in the summertime. I have also started carrying around a small film camera to snap pics of small moments and capture the vibe. This essential makes keeping memories more special and adds a new look to photos.
