While Reebok isn't as popular here in Asia especially when compared to its American and German counterparts, hype surrounding the British sportswear company has no doubt increased over the past few years. For decades, silhouettes like the Club C and Instapump Fury have been streetwear staples across this side of the globe, and now, Reebok is hoping to win more hearts by teaming up with Setsumasa Kobayashi for the Mountain Research x Reebok Beatnik.
Just in case you didn't already know, while the Beatnik is now more popular than ever thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, the slide model actually debuted as part of Reebok's Fall 1994 Outdoor line. Originally made in Brazil and released in the West, it somehow made its way across the water to Japan and gained itself a pretty major cult following. Fast forward three decades, and Kobayashi's has applied his hiking boot sensibilities to the shoe. With flame-like stitching across the side panels and a full brown leather outfit, this is really a match made in heaven.
A buckle system offers the ultimate lockdown fit, and underfoot, you'll find an extra toothy rubber outsole which goes back to the Beatnik's outdoorsy roots, finalizing the retro design.
The Mountain Research x Reebok Beatnik is scheduled to drop on September 23rd via Mountain Research, followed by a global release on September 27th. You definitely do not want to miss out on this coveted collaboration, so keep it locked on Ox Street for more news as it develops.
