People & Their Sneakers: Film Assistant Director Shrill Kaji

Could you share a bit about your secret origin story? (Tell us a bit about yourself, how did you start loving sneakers, what you do/hobbies etc.)

One of my very good friends was into sneakers, and at that time I wasn’t into sneakers nor understand the streetwear culture. But then another friend introduced me to sneakers, and not long after that I got my first sneakers; then I couldn't stop buying sneakers ever since! I also started reading about streetwear cultures and it made me fall in love with sneakers even more. I am really really thankful for my friend who introduced me to sneakers.

Besides collecting sneakers, I also like collecting perfume. I like to watch some movies in my leisure time. And do not forget about exercise because it's one of the keys to keeping you healthy! 

Apart from sneakers, right now I'm an Assistant Director for the film Chehre, starring Amitabh Bachchan that was released in theatres in India and recently on Amazon Prime. I handle the marketing and all other stuff going on.

What's your current favorite pair of sneakers?

My current favorite sneakers are the Air Jordan 1 High Tokyo Bio Hack. This sneaker is so special because it's my first Air Jordan! The pair is soo wild and crazy, vibrant, and colorful - basically it's a happy shoe for me.

What drew you to this particular pair of sneakers?

Really colorful and vibrant as I said earlier. Other Air Jordans have similar color blocking where the white is constant; and this time I wanted something which is more black. And if you see the Air Jordan 1 High Tokyo Bio Hack, it doesn't have any white color on it; not even one dot - so that's what made me fall in love with it!

What’s your personal sneaker collecting philosophy?

When it comes to sneakers, I just believe you have to buy whatever you like. In the sneaker game, the hype is crazy for sneakers. People tend to buy hype sneakers although they don't like it; just because everyone talks about it. Meanwhile, there are also a lot of great underrated sneakers which are very very good. You have to go for everything you like and screw everything else haha. And whatever you feel will look good on you - that's my philosophy.

Your dream hype sneaker you wish to acquire but don't have so far.

Off-White x Air Jordan High ‘Chicago’. I truly wanted it and I'm going to get it at some point in time!

What's your day-to-day style like?

I keep it very simple, with nothing hype or any crazy stuff going on. On the weekends when I hang out with my friends, then would dress up properly. I just dress very simply when it comes to work.
