Interviews

October 10, 2022

Kaiyan @kickzfigz, is an Australian sneaker photographer who has been surrounded by sneakers his whole life as his father is a huge sneakerhead. He always feels creative every time he gets new pairs as he loves to photograph and match them with the best outfits!

What was the moment you first got drawn to sneakers, and which pair of sneakers triggered your passion?

I've been surrounded by sneakers my whole life, as my father is a huge sneakerhead. But, the actual moment that drew me into sneakers was in 2015 when my dad and I were in the Nike outlet and picked up a pair of Nike Air Flight Huaraches in the Lakers colorway. I loved the sneakers' shape, color blocking, and overall build. That sneaker is still one of my favorites to this day.

What’s one moment or trend in the history of sneaker culture that resonates with you?

When Jordan 1s skyrocketed in popularity as Jordan 1s used to sit in outlets back then. This resonated with me as my first pair of Jordans was the Jordan 1 Storm Blues.

Please describe how it feels to you when you get and wear a new pair of kicks?

Whenever I get a new pair of kicks, I love the feeling of wearing them straight away and the process of coming up with new outfits, sneaker shots, or places to wear them. I love the creativity it brings out of me every time I get a new pair of kicks.

What are some of your favorite creators/designers or brands and why?

My favorite creator/designer would have to be Jerry Lorenzo, with the Fear of God line having a very versatile, high-quality, and simple design. Virgil Abloh's Off-White line has impressive creative, out-of-the-box construction and design choices. Lastly, Tinker Hatfield has been designing some of the most iconic Jordans still worn to this day.

These three designers have produced iconic and outstanding brands and designs I still wear and love.

What is one sneaker collaboration that doesn’t exist, but you wish/think should exist?

A triple collaboration between Nike, Off-White, and Fear of God would be great! I think the craftsmanship and simplicity of the Fear of God brand combined with Off-White's unfinished and unique alterations on a Nike sneaker would look fantastic!

What are some of the current pairs of sneakers in your rotation?

Currently, my rotation consists of my casual, versatile shoe - CDG Converse Chuck 70, Jordan 4 Legend Blues as I've gotten into Jordan 4s again, and Jordan 1 High Newstalgia.

What is your ultimate holy grail sneaker that you have not managed to acquire so far?

I've wanted a Jordan 1 Chicago for the longest time - the most iconic pair that started it all. I hope to get my hands on a pair soon.

Other than kicks, what are some of your daily essentials or treasured items?

It would have to be a high-quality watch. I wear one every day as I love watch brands' craftsmanship, versatility, and history.

Where can people find you on social media?
