I love the game of basketball. Growing up in the 90s, I was a huge fan of the NBA and sneakers. The Air Penny 1 was one of my favorites.
The 2012 Nike Basketball All-Star 'Galaxy' lineup was definitely a moment. It was the perfect intersection of signature athletes, interstellar-themed designs, and glow-in-the-dark outsoles.
Re-lacing them is a must. After the initial few steps gingerly out the front door in a fresh new pair, they quickly convert all the nervousness into boundless joy. They even sound different when the brand new outsole strikes the pavement.
We've been spoiled for choice with talented designers in the industry. Eric Avar designed some of my favorite basketball shoes. Chitose Abe and Salehe Bembury have also been putting out fantastic projects. I love that their designs are visually impactful and decipherable at first glance.
There are so many talented independent designers out there, too, like @lorenz.og. His work stands out, and the way he applies the sunset gradient scheme is just bliss.
An official John Mayer x Nike is well overdue? Since it's hypothetical, let's throw Visvim into the mix too.
A Ma Maniere 3's, Air Structure Triax, and NB 990v5 are among my weekly rotation.
I would love to own Nike Hyperdunk 'Marty McFly' one day.
My daily essentials include a sketchbook, paintbrushes, and laptop.
