Celise Bakker - Dutch Street Style Photographer Interview

What was the moment you first got drawn to sneakers, and which pair of sneakers triggered your passion?

I believe this was in my twenties. My sneaker passion got triggered by Converse Chucks and I gathered a collection of different colorways and models since then. Then I started to notice the "real" sneaker world means.

What’s one moment or trend in the history of sneaker culture that resonates with you?

I can't really name a specific moment or trend, but I appreciate the time when it wasn't all about the hype or the gram.

Of course, I also like to share my shots on social media. But as a street style photographer, I've always admired and been interested in unique people, their outfits/sneakers, and the story behind what they wear.

It's not wanting to have the sneakers because of the hype and the likes but rather because of passion and love for it.

Please describe how it feels to you when you get and wear a new pair of kicks?

New sneakers drive my creativity. They make me want to wear new outfit combinations. Also, my photographer's mind came to life; I started thinking about the shots I could take of the fresh pair of sneakers.

What are some of your favorite creators/designers or brands and why?

I admire Feng Chen Wang and Sacai & Henrik Vibskov because of their innovative approach to patterns and shapes. I'm also impressed by Ader Error and their ballsy unique creativity in their designs.

What is one sneaker collaboration that doesn’t exist, but you wish/think should exist?

Oh my, this is a hard one. It would be definitely interesting to see Sacai and Salomon collaborating. I would love to see how Sacai would mash up some Salomon shoes.

What are some of the current pairs of sneakers in your rotation?

For comfort, I like to wear the Hi-tec HTS shadow with an RGS sole. They are so comfy. But the pair I am wearing the most at the moment is the New Balance 990 V5 Grey.

What is your ultimate holy grail sneaker that you have not managed to acquire so far?

I wouldn't say I have an ultimate holy grail. But I can be bummed out if I'm not selected for a pair I really wanted, for instance, the first release of the Nike x Sacai Waffle. However, it won't make me spend over 500 euros on the resellers market.

Other than kicks, what are some of your daily essentials or treasured items?

My bracelet from le Gramme which I got from my boyfriend, is a treasured item. I like to wear oversized jackets a lot, and I never leave the house without a spray of perfume. At the moment, this is Aliens from Thierry Mugler.
