Filipino Sneakerhead and Blogger: Yael Arevalo

What was the moment you first got drawn to sneakers, and which pair of sneakers triggered your passion?

It actually started with basketball shoes when I was in 6th grade. I remember it was the Adidas Adizero Rose 1, yet it didn’t stop there. Then I got my first Air Jordan 1 Mid Red Toe a year after. And then now, after looking for some fashion inspirations, I am very passionate about styling, not just the J1s or Adidas - but also New Balances!

What’s one moment or trend in the history of sneaker culture that resonates with you?

Personally,, It’s always the sneaker collaboration. We cannot set aside the Jordan x Dior, but for me, I’ll always go with the Aimé Leon Dore for New Balance. That was my dream pair!

Please describe how it feels to you when you get and wear a new pair of kicks?

I feel confident and happy whenever I wear a new pair of kicks, especially when I want that pair for a long time! It gives me motivation somehow to style and creates more fashion staples.

What are some of your favorite creators/designers or brands and why?

Prada would be my all-time favorite brand. Next is the Off-white. Why? My style is street-casual, and I think these designers represent my style!

Prada gives a casual chic style which is definitely a head-turner. While Off-White, provides justice to its every collaboration or as a brand, especially when pulling a street style fashion staple.

What is one sneaker collaboration that doesn’t exist, but you wish/think should exist?

I am kinda looking forward to a Prada x Converse collaboration. I think that would be stylish and dope at the same time as the Converse x Kim Jones.

What are some of the current pairs of sneakers in your rotation?

I got the NB 550 Team Red, Nike Monarch IV, Off-White X Nike Airforce Mid in White, Adidas Supercourt RC, and Air Jordan Mid. AJ1s never failed as well!

What is your ultimate holy grail sneaker that you have not managed to acquire so far?

Is Prada Monolith Loafers applicable? Haha, if not, definitely it’s the Aimé Leon Dore x NB 550 in Green Yellow.

Other than kicks, what are some of your daily essentials or treasured items?

It’s the sunglasses for me. It adds style to whatever outfit you are wearing. Definitely an essential for me.
