Filipino Sneakerhead and Dior Fan: Ranny Bautista

What was the moment you first got drawn to sneakers, and which pair of sneakers triggered your passion?

I remember the first time I got drawn to sneakers was when I had my first travel across country, Macao. I didn't bring any sneakers with me that time and just planning to pair everything with my brown suede Clarks Originals, but it's not comfortable for an all-day city tour.

I decided to buy a new one and bought these navy blue leather sneakers from Lacoste, and starting that day, I realized that sneakers are not just about style, but also their comfortability.

What’s one moment or trend in the history of sneaker culture that resonates with you?

I must say, it's the Walk'n'Dior sneakers in white cotton canvas as it goes well with my lifestyle. As someone who values work-life balance, I love how versatile it is. I can wear it for a preppy look at the office on weekdays and also enjoy it on casual days over weekends.

Please describe how it feels to you when you get and wear a new pair of kicks?

I really try to get smart with my budget when it comes to sneakers. Wearing a new pair of kicks feels like walking on a different path in life. I really use my sneakers for their purpose, so getting to buy a new pair means going on a new journey with them.

What are some of your favorite creators/designers or brands and why?

One of my favorite brands when it comes to sneakers is Dior. I love how they can really go with my lifestyle. It's chic and classy, but it doesn't stop you from experimenting more with different looks and vibes. I like how you can pair it with a matching suit, but it also goes well with cut-off denim and a shirt. The versatility of this brand really goes a long way, and it really values the return of investment.

What is one sneaker collaboration that doesn’t exist, but you wish/think should exist?

One sneaker collaboration that doesn't exist but I wish to was Dior x New Balance. I love how Dior releases their sneakers in a very chic and classy way, so I'm excited to see how New balance would incorporate its comfortability and a more relaxed vibe.

What are some of the current pairs of sneakers in your rotation?

Currently, my Walk'nDior in white cotton canvas, Comme des Garcons Play x Converse in black high-top, and New Balance 327 in navy and beige way that's on my rotation.

What is your ultimate holy grail sneaker that you have not managed to acquire so far?

I would say it's the Golden Goose Superstar. I love the silhouette of the sneakers, and the fact that it doesn't require a lot of effort to keep them clean is a plus! It can also be a versatile piece in your collection and a good pair for everyday errands.

Other than kicks, what are some of your daily essentials or treasured items?

That would be good pair of leather loafers. Even though you can pull off a lot of good fits in sneakers, leather shoes give a different feel. Footwear really finishes the vibe and look of an outfit. So, being able to slay in sneakers and leather is really a thing we should all master.
