New Zealand Sneakerhead and Photographer: Marco Stander

Interviews

The Jeremy Scott Adidas sneakers really got Marco Stander @marco.stander interested in sneakers and fashion as a whole growing up. From New Zealand, he loves photography and styling items or clothing to express his style and personality. His favorite sneakers are the Prada Cloudbust and his dream sneakers are the Air Jordan 4 Retro "Black Cats".

Could you share a bit about your secret origin story? (Tell us a bit about yourself, how did you start loving sneakers, what you do/hobbies etc.)

I always had a love for sneakers growing up, I think the Jeremy Scott Adidas sneakers really got me interested in sneakers and fashion as a whole growing up. I got really excited when I heard that they will be teaming up again this year and working on some new releases.

Photography has always been a hobby of mine, I find styling items or clothing and capturing it a great way of expressing my personal style and personality - and having it documented online to look back at how my style has changed and developed.

I also recently moved into a new unfurnished apartment, so I have been spending quite a bit of time collecting furniture and items to fill the space with - it has been so much fun decorating the apartment and making it align with my aesthetic.

What's your current favorite pair of sneakers?

My favorite pair of sneakers that I own are definitely the Prada Cloudbust sneakers. The pair that I have is from the Spring 2018 Menswear collection and they have a lot of sentimental value to me. Definitely holding onto these forever!

I wasn't a big fan of them when they first came out, but the retro-futuristic look started to grow on me really quickly. I think they're so interesting to look at, such a futuristic-looking sneaker silhouette (especially considering when they were released) combined with a retro-looking velcro strap - I've honestly never seen a pair of sneakers like them. The black and red colorway looks so sleek as well and always turns heads.

What’s your personal sneaker collecting philosophy?

I don't really have a set philosophy for collecting sneakers because my style changes all the time. I guess the most important thing is to collect sneakers that you genuinely love yourself and not just buying what everyone else around you is hyping up.

Your dream hype sneaker you wish to acquire but don't have so far.

I haven't been able to stop thinking about the Jordan 4 Retro "Black Cats" - I would love to add a pair to my collection at some point. One of my dream sneakers would also be a pair of Rick Owens Geobasket high-tops, I'll literally be happy with any colorway.

What's your day-to-day style like?

I feel most comfortable when I'm wearing all black, maybe add a leather coat or jacket and it's really easy to match it with any pair of sneakers. If I'm feeling lazy I love wearing an oversized tracksuit with some more comfortable sneakers, my favorite at the moment are the New Balance 2002R's.

Where can people find you on social media?
