The Bred 1. I was always more of a Bred than a Chicago kinda girl. In some sense, I think the time I got into sneaker culture was when many people favored and styled the Breds more than the Chicago's. Although, now, because of Virgil's Off-White Chicago 1s, public sentiment has definitely changed.
I fell down the rabbit hole of AJ1s. I watched countless videos of (mostly) men speaking about the shoe's fit and giving their reviews and comparisons on the differences between the releases over the years. My favorite J1 video that I still remember vividly is the one of Michael Jordan shattering the backboard. A few years later, the SBB Satins were released, and I copped a pair, of course.
That said, my first pair of Jordans weren't the 1s - it was a pair of Space Jam 11s. An iconic pair, too, in their own right. Back then, before the resurgence, 1s were way too expensive and hard to find in women's sizes. But we've got so many choices now.
A moment in sneaker history that shocked me, yet felt like a moment so close to me was the drop of Jeff Staple's Pigeon Dunks. The absolute frenzy that went down at that drop carries the same desperate and adrenaline-high rush that comes with every physical drop I've been to – be it for Supreme, Palace, Yeezy or any other sneaker and streetwear drop.
Thank God, of course, the violence never repeated itself. But the sleuthing for the location, the camping, the queueing, the pushing, and the euphoria at the end where you emerge back through the shop doors- glorious, there's nothing quite like it.
I think I speak for us all when I say we can't get too excited and rip open the double boxes without getting our phones out to record the unboxing.
My new kicks always come out with me the day they get unboxed. I've usually already built the perfect fit in my mind, so I'm more than ready to show them off to the world.
I love anything contemporary streetwear and leaning cut-up, choppy, edgy and vintage. I find Hyein Seo popularised said style - I love anything she creates. Special mentions to Christina, @fromchristina and @unnamed.nyc., Nensi Dojaka, Coperni, and Diesel, who are definitely having their moment now.
I do also love the cute and graphic yet minimal style that Vandy the Pink creates and that Ader Error also emulates. And, when I want something more rugged and toned down, anything second-hand Carhartt and Dickies is great.
Wow, this is really a difficult question. I LOVE pairing luxury with sneakers. So, I just ran through the Rolex of luxury brands in my mind, and the thing is, I think most of them already have done their collaboration with Nike or Adidas.
You know what, I think it's time for Kim to have her line of Nikes. Something very neutral and simplistic that'd go well with her SKIMS line. She's got to have her drop so she can stop styling them with her ex's shoes.
Having said all that earlier about "true" sneaker and hypebeast culture, I'm a little shy to admit that I'm now mainly rocking New Balances or Dunks. The 530 Steel Greys are a pair that I've been rocking lots. I was told they were somewhat of a Japan/Korea exclusive, but they've definitely been catching on worldwide.
I'm now waiting for two pairs of Teddy Santis' 990v3s (the Moonbeam and the Marblehead) to come in the mail.
Umm... I really wanted a pair of Ben & Jerry's Dunks. In some special way which I can't say without divulging too much information. I grew up with Ben & Jerry's, and it would just mean a lot to me to own a pair of shoes that manifest that dream.
All of my bags! I don't have a shot of them as a family, but you'll see them scattered throughout my feed.
Rollies and other watches, too, of course, pair so well. The OPs for that "clean girl", "that girl" minimal look; the GMTs and Submariners for the sporty chic look. While I think dress watches like Cartiers would look beautiful with any neutral New Balance 990s and 550s.
Oh wait, can I add in my tooth gems? They're stuck on my teeth, so I guess they're my everyday accessories, haha.
